“You must be happy” they say!

“Get a great job, you’ll be happy” they say.

“Keep distractions out of sight, you’ll be happy” they say.

They say “Life’s too short to do multiple things”.

“Focus on one and make it yours” they say.

But what if my happiness doesn’t sync with that?

“It’s for your best future” they say.

Future is unseen, a mystery one can’t solve. No mystery is planned, no master plan drawn.

I am afraid I beg to differ from what they say. I am afraid the happiness they foresee is not what I figure.

Maybe a great job is best and makes one happy but that’s materialistic and the heart can’t copy. I am sorry to have distractions. I am sorry to have my plate full. But maybe there’s a chance, even if as tiny as dust, that I can change the age old myths. Just maybe I can be the one who can do multiple things and do them right.

Maybe I just need to fight. Not with myself but the world out there. That applauds an expert but a jack gets despair. Life is too short but is a long journey. A journey I believe is mine and not what they say.
