A Journey to 25 | Day 2

The surroundings were unusually still. The house was filled with an eerie silence after a deafening scream. The scream felt familiar yet the mind was unable to find the source. Everything happened so fast, no one could have anticipated this to happen.

It was a usual day. My mom had been cleaning the house while the one-year-old me wandered around everywhere she went. She had just given me a bath and there I was meandering around trying to play with the dirt. She took me in her arms, walked into the bedroom and placed me on the bed asking me to not go anywhere. I was an obedient baby or so I am told. She assumed I would listen and turned to leave the room. While she was closing the door to keep me away my tiny self had plans of her own. She stepped down the bed and walked towards the door. While she was happily placing her right hand on the doorframe my mom was closing the door and that’s where the scream had originated. For a split second my mom didn’t understand what had happened. She had heard my scream yet her mind kept telling her, “You’ve placed her on the bed. She can’t possibly be outside.”

As the door opened again my little self and my mom were both in tears. My mom was horrorstruck. She picked me up and ran to the kitchen. My fingers were bleeding. She rubbed turmeric over them and held them together. Leaving the house like a barren land she ran to her cousin’s place. Horror was all over her face. She wasn’t able to think straight. So my aunt took me in her arms and left for the hospital.

All said and done my fingers are fine now, thanks to my mom’s quick thinking that stopped the bleeding. Here’s a picture of me smiling with my broken fingers bandaged.
